The French Embassy will host the play ‘Around the World in 80 Days (Le Tour Du Monde En 80 Jours)’ by Jules Verne at the Qatar National Theatre on May 14 and 15. The play will be performed in French. Sabrina Marigot, cultural supervisor, Centre Culturel Français de Doha, said the French Embassy wants to propose a rich cultural agenda for the French community, the French-speaking and non-French speaking communities and the Francophiles of Doha, hence the show. “The play ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ was a huge success in Paris for three seasons and we are really proud to propose this show to the French-speaking community,” said Marigot. The play was adapted by Sébastien Azzopardi and Sacha Danino from Verne’s novel. Verne, a French author who pioneered the science-fiction genre, was well known for his novels “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” and “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.” He wrote about space, air, and underwater travel before navigable aircraft and practical submarines were invented, and before any means of space travel had been devised. “Around the World in 80 Days” tells the adventures of Phileas Fogg and his servant Passepartout who wants to prove to his acquaintances that it is possible to travel around the world in 80 days. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=May2009&file=Local_News200905113642.xml
