Free phone vouchers for prisoners

The Ministry of Interior provides free telephone vouchers to poor prisoners to contact with their families and relatives during Eid. Female inmates are being trained in tailoring, embroidery work, painting and make-up, among others and provided with machines. Some are learning computer courses. Prisoners are being served several types of meals comprising meat, chicken, fish, dairy products, vegetables, fruits and sweets, said the Director of Punitive and Reforms Institutions Department at the ministry, Mohammad Saud Al Utaibi. The ministry also providing diabetic prisoners with food recommended by medical experts, the local daily Al Raya reported yesterday. Fasting inmates are being served iftar and suhoor meals rich with vitamins and proteins during Ramadan to keep them healthy. Pregnant prisoners and breastfeeding mothers are under special care and are provided with a balanced diet to keep them and their babies and children healthy. Children of female inmates (aged from six to eight months) are receiving eggs without yolk and fruits like apple and banana, while those between seven months and one year are being given full eggs and biscuits and those above one year are provided with complete meals that suit them. Religious, cultural and sports competitions, including volleyball, football, chess and domino, for inmates began with Ramadan and continue until 25th of Ramadan.
