The Upper Criminal Court here recently found four men, two of them public servants, guilty of forging municipal documents related to building permits, Al Sharq daily reported. All four defendants are facing charges ranging from grand larceny and bribery to official misconduct for gaining illegal earnings. The two public officials, one of them working for a municipality, conspired with their accomplices, who worked for an engineering bureau and a contracting firm. The public official, making use of his position, fraudulently submitted official documents bearing a bogus stamp of a prominent architectural designing office and the signature of its manager to the Building Department of a certain municipality. The purpose of the false filing was to get a building permit, which, according to the regulations, is given only if a licensed engineering office is supervising the construction. The group of fraudsters repeated the forgery several times till the fraud was discovered during routine checking of documents by their supervisors. http://www.thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=December2008&file=Local_News2008121454939.xml
