Qatar rainwater nentwork incompletion

Dr. Eng. Saad Al Muhannadi, the president of Ashghal made a statement on Ashghal's social media channels about the flood along Corniche Road which happened on July 28th during the rain.

Rainwater piling on Corniche is due to incompletion of works in rainwater drainage network. Certain contractors & consultants did not follow instructions on preparation for rain season & necessary measures will be implemented.
Unusual rain expected in future years. We work arduously to reduce any impact. Yet, a network has certain capacity & design capability. Heavy rain leads to water accumulation, to be automatically drained through network; however, ample time is required.
The amount of rainfall of last thursday equals the amount of rainfall occured on Oct 2018, although its affect did not exceed 6% from the same locations affected in 2018 proving the efficiency of the drainage network that was implemented and completed.
Areas without rainwater drainage networks use operational solutions. But efficiency is limited & longer time is consumed to pump out water.
During heavy rain, piled dust causes blockage in rainwater drainage networks, impacting water draining functionality.
I am proud of Qatari & expatriate staff in #Ashghal on all levels; infrastructure implementation, prompt emergency response or any other services. We are responsible and committed to providing services up to all expectations and we do not seek any excuses.

Social media was buzzing with photos and video clips of flooded roads in Qatar including the newly completed corniche road and many users were questioning this.
