A large warehouse of furnishing materials and surgical equipment, located in the neighbourhood of the BMW workshop in Doha’s Industrial Area, was destroyed in a fire last night. No one sustained any injuries. Sources said that it was unlikely there was anyone at the warehouse at the time as yesterday was a holiday. Fire engines and water tankers rushed to the place after the fire was reported around 9pm. Medical ambulances were also deployed in the area as a precautionary measure. Despite intensive efforts by members of the Civil Defence teams and police, a major portion of the sprawling godown was gutted. The fire was brought under control more than two hours after it started. It did not spread to neighbouring compounds because of quick response by fire-fighting teams.
