Famous Italian fashion designer Domenico Vacca today opens his first flagship boutique in the Middle East at The Pearl-Qatar showcasing an array of exotic, high-end collections. The 2,360sq m store is the designer’s 10th showroom after outlets in New York, Florida, Los Angeles and Moscow. A launch party and fashion show is being planned for 7pm today at The Pearl-Qatar. “I see Qatar as the perfect door to the Middle East and with the opening of this flagship store here on The Pearl, we have plans to open five more in Bahrain, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi and Dubai by September 2010,” Vacca, the boutique’s president and chief executive officer, said yesterday. Vacca, whose $35mn worth designing work is being described by the Italian media as “the Ferrari of clothing”, says Domenico Vacca is one of the very few fashion companies that not only produces a high quality luxury product that is hand-crafted, but also offers a whole product range including ready-to-wear collections, couture gowns, jewellery, accessories, crocodile handbags for women, all of which will be coming to Doha. “We have custom-made programmes to build your own personal wardrobe, with measurements to fit, and style that personally suits your tastes,” he said while mentioning that he has dressed top film directors, and provided periodic film costumes, for many contemporary films. “We’ve just been working with actor Mickey Rourke, on his latest film 11 Minutes, which is adapted from a novel by writer Paulo Coehlo. We’ve also been working with actor Forest Whitaker, and designing the clothing for a film with Diane Keaton and Harrison Ford,” said Vacca whose other clients include Scarlett Johansson, Evana Trump and Queen Latifa. He said the idea to come to Doha developed about one and a half years ago in New York after meeting professionals from The Pearl-Qatar. “I was completely blown away with this ambitious and visionary project. I’m very impressed with the vision of United Development Company - owner and developer of The Pearl-Qatar,” he said. “We believe Qatar has a unique visionary stand point in the way that the nation is growing. It is very exciting to see this growth, and the wealth, and solid strength of Qatar’s economy - all these elements make it the next place to come to in the Middle East,” he added. Born in Italy, Vacca who has been into designing for 15 years, started his own signature DV alongside his wife Julie about 10 years ago, and now DV boasts of a factory with more than 100 tailors and 250 seamstresses who produce up to 10,000 units of dresses a year. He also has a furniture-making factory and launched his first watches collection about five months ago. http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=296205&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
