Fanar has set a world record with the biggest gilding painting in the world. In the middle of the painting the words ‘Mus’haf Qatar’ are written to celebrate the launch of Mus’haf Qatar, the special edition of the Qur’an set in calligraphy. According to the specifications for an entry into the Guinness World Record, the painting had to be 6m long and the coverage of gold paper 55% of the surface. Choctan brothers, the creative artists, used more than 2,500 pieces of gold paper in the record-breaking feat. Preparing the painting took 15 days, with the gilding work completed in 40 hours. The event was conceived by Fanar to put Islamic arts on the global stage and to promote awareness about the Islamic way of life. Pictured on the left are the artists working on the gilding of the painting. http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=348596&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
