The Al Rayyan Municipality is all set to develop the Kharaij beach in Umbab. The beach will have facilities for overnight stay for families. The project would be launched with the support of the Urban Planning and Development Authority (UPDA), said Jamal Matar Al Nuami, a senior official of the municipality. The beach would be protected by concrete walls, a gate and a control room. Families will be able to stay for a few days in the furnished rooms. Trees would also be planted all along the beach. A football ground and a volleyball court would also be developed in the beach for the recreation of the visitors. A children’s park would also be developed in the area, Al Nuaimi said. The proposed project is being planned away from the family areas to make sure it in no way affects the privacy of families, he added. The municipality also has plans to develop 12 new parks in various parts of Al Rayyan. Al Nuaimi said the local body had earmarked QR20bn for the maintenance and development of roads. A QR95m municipal complex project is also in the pipeline. The proposed municipal complex will have three buildings, including a community hall. The idea is to make the community hall the venue for all cultural activities that take place in Al Rayyan, he said. The presence of labour camps in residential areas is a big problem faced by the municipality. The municipality is working on a project to shift the labour camps and the residences of single labourers away from the residential areas. Trucks frequently passing through residential areas is another issue to be tackled by the municipality. Al Nuaimi said Al Rayyan Municipality enjoyed good relations with the members of the Central Municipal Council. Development works in the are being done in close coordination with CMC members. A total of 12 members represent Al Rayyan in the CMC, he said. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local%5FNews&subsection=Qatar+News&month=January2010&file=Local_News2010010943824.xml
