Ezdan Real Estate Company’s new generation Ezdan mall, being built along the Shamal Expressway in Al Gharafa will be commissioned in September. A company communique said yesterday that the new mall is a part of Ezdan’s strategy to diversify its investments and its work is in full swing. The Ezdan Mall will be managed by Malik Q Awan, a widely-experienced veteran in the retail industry, who has been appointed as the Chief Operating Officer, it said. The Ezdan Mall will enhance the profile and marketability, besides seeking to ensure their sustainability through strategic alliance with major retail group and appropriate tenant mix strategy, it added. Deputy CEO of Ezdan Real Estate Abdul Rahman al-Najjar said “We’re extremely delighted to have a dynamic person as Awan as the head of our new Mall. It is going to a major milestone in the country’s retailing shopping industry. Awan has long-time experience in the retail industry that spans over two decades.” Awan said: “I am happy to join one of largest real estate groups in the GCC region. What makes Ezdan stand out among the developers are the company’s ownership of several strategically located properties. “Since there are positive results in Qatar retail segment, the retailers are keen to expand their operations in the country. However, it is hard for them to find a right location within the new developments. In recent years, new developers came up with shopping malls which exposed major gaps in the main categories in the merchandise mix. They fail to understand the importance of the positioning and merchandise mix in the malls, ending up with imbalance mall merchandise configurations,” he said. The official said the group would focus on the gaps in the market, when setting its merchandise mix strategy. The Ezdan Mall Gharafa will have 400,000 square feet area on three floors. It is at the heart of the prime shopping district, surrounded by other shopping malls and a hypermarket, with 50,000 footfalls in the area. And once our Gharafa Mall and adjacent mall open, the footfalls are expected to double,” said Awan. Planning and negotiations are in progress with major retailers to this end, he said. Gulf Times
