Here’s what’s happened since last week’s updates.
The shopping outlets in Qatar on Saturday removed all the remaining products made in or distributed by the countries, which have imposed an unjust blockade on Qatar.
The move comes in response to a Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) directive for an immediate removal of all edible and inedible products from Bahrain, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, Qatar Tribune reported.
Furthermore, the ministry said its inspectors would make sure full compliance with the order. However, The removal has not left shelves empty as alternatives, either local or imported products from friendly nations, have replaced the products taken off. The ministry said the whole process has been executed after proper planning.
According to a report published by Lebanon-based Arabic-language al-Akhbar daily newspaper, Sheikh Rashid bin Hamad al-Sharqi, who is the Chairman of Fujairah Culture and Media Authority (FCMA), went to the Qatari Embassy in London on May 19, and requested asylum, Press TV reported.
An informed source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the Emirati prince stayed at the Qatari diplomatic mission for three days, where he revealed many innermost secrets to officials there, the report further sates.
What is more, Al-Sharqi was transported in a diplomatic car on May 23 from the Qatari Embassy to Heathrow Airport. He was flown to Qatar on board a private plane, and entered Doha using his diplomatic passport.
The Emirati authorities, not having heard of the prince for a while, contacted British officials to know his whereabouts as he had not referred to the UAE Embassy in London, and there were no indications he had been kidnapped from his residence at the 45 Park Lane.
Qatar has doubled its contribution to the Global Community Engagement & Resilience Fund (GCERF) to reach $10 million, after pledging an additional $5 million during its participation in the eighth meeting of the GCERF Governing Board held in Lausanne, Switzerland, according to a press release by Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It is worth noting that Qatar has become the biggest contributor to the GCERF. Qatar called on all other countries, especially the countries of the region, to follow the example of Qatar and participate in this global fund as it's the only fund in the world dedicated to supporting local communities to confront violent extremism leading to terrorism.
Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met in his office at Al Bahr Palace with President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Ahmad Ahmad, on the occasion of his visit to the country, Peninsula Qatar reported.
The meeting reviewed cooperation ties and means of boosting and developing them in addition to a set of issues of mutual interest. H H Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Personal Representative of H H the Amir, attended the meeting.
