Emir to open Unctad XIII on April 21

The Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani will open the 13th session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (Unctad XIII), at Qatar National Convention Centre on April 21. The opening ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Convention Centre’s Theatre at 2pm. Heads of States and Governments and the UN will make their statements at the opening session. Several heads of states and ministers of trade and developments in the Unctad 193 member-states will take part in the conference, which will run through April 26. On April 19, the first Global Services Forum will bring together concerned ministers, policy makers, and representatives of the private sector, major professional alliances, international associations and organizations, service regulators, and industry experts to discuss ways to develop the services sector in terms of both the workforce it uses and the business deals done through it. The forum attendees will also examine ways to overcome the obstacles that stand in the way of the development and prosperity of this sector. From 20 to 23 April, Qatar will host the third World Investment The forum provides a platform for in-depth dialogue and debate among decision-makers, leaders of major international corporations, investors, and officials in charge of investment agencies worldwide to prepare for a new stage of constructive and responsible investments. The forum will focus on the major transformations in foreign investment patterns in the wake of the global economic crisis, including the inclination toward investments in sectors that consume less hydrocarbon products and emit relatively lower amounts of carbon.
