Emir participates in opening session of COP 22

HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani participated in the opening session of the 22nd Conference of the Parties (COP 22) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) which was held yesterday in Marrakesh, Morocco.

The opening session was attended by a number of heads of state and government as well as heads of delegations participating in the conference, in addition to a number of civil society organisations and institutions concerned with the environment. Later the Emir attended a luncheon banquet held by King Mohamed VI of Morocco at the royal palace in honour of leaders of countries and heads of delegations who are taking part in COP22.

The Emir left Marrakesh city, after taking part in the UN climate conference.
He sent a cable to King Mohamed VI of Morocco expressing his thanks and appreciation for the hospitality and honour accorded to him and the accompanying delegation. The Emir praised the efforts of the Moroccan King, which he said would have great impact on the success of the conference in reaching positive results that reinforce addressing the climate change phenomenon.The Emir wished the Moroccan King good health and success, and the Moroccan people further progress and prosperity.

Earlier on arrival in Marrakesh on Monday, the Emir and his accompanying delegation were welcomed at Menara Marrakech International Airport by Morocco’s Minister of Health El Houssaine Louardi and Qatar’s ambassador to Morocco Abdullah Falah al-Dossari. (Source)
