Qatar Tribune reported that according to the Minister of Transport and Communications HE Jassim bin Saif al Sulaiti, the electronic gate system, QGate, is not completely ready yet and needs time and legislation to be framed.
He said it is still early to speak about the details of the gate system and information on fares, roads, and other details will be revealed a year before it is launched.
The minister said this will not be done till all the main road projects are completed, which he expects will be ready by the end of 2021 or early 2022.
QGate will be implemented on certain roads with specific fares on some highways, to be met with other free roads giving drivers the ability to choose the road they desire, he said.
The minister said there is an integrated plan to make entrances and train stations of public transport air-conditioned, with standards that respect the environmental regulations in Qatar. He said designing for it has started and tender preparations have begun and will be ready before 2022 FIFA World Cup.
He said the public transport system, in general, will be completed at least a year and a half or two years before the start of the 2022 World Cup.
