Al Jazeera reported on 2 May 2023 that eight individuals have been imprisoned in Qatar for spying on Qatar for Israel.
As per the report, the individuals were arrested in late August 2022.
It was also mentioned that the individuals were employed at a company that was advising on a Qatari programme which was looking to get high-tech Italian-made submarines.
International intervention has been attempted to release the individuals; however, as mentioned in the Al Jazeera report, Qatar has informed that there is evidence that information has been passed on to Israeli intelligence.
The violators have faced their first trial in March 2023 and are expected to face another one in May 2023.
As per the Al Jazeera report, other international media have reported that Qatar has shut the company down, and 75 employees have been let go.
