After a fun filled and eventful week of Eid celebrations, Qatar is back to work. With the summer heat pounding on the residents, many are opting for long a vacation to someplace cooler. However, all this has not dampened the spirit of Qatar and there are events (although not many) happening around the country. Here is a short list of events that you can enjoy this week.

Muhammad Ali: Tribute to a Legend

The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) has organised the an exhibition dedicated to boxing legend and activist Muhammad Ali since his death on June 3. Titled ‘Muhammad Ali: Tribute to a Legend,’ the exhibition brings together 22 artefacts spanning the first 18 years of his 21-year professional boxing career from 1960 to 1978.

Time: Sunday, Monday and Wednesday from 10:30am to 5pm; Thursday from noon to 8pm; Friday from 2pm to 8pm; Saturday from noon to 8pm; and closed Tuesdays

QNCC: Eidiah Tourist Festival

The Ramadan Tourist Festival (Eidiah), held at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC), provides a great opportunity to gather all these activities under one roof. It is a complete family entertainment and shopping experience.

What About The Art? Contemporary Art from China

What About the Art? is an exhibition from 15 contemporary Chinese artists curated by internationally acclaimed New York based Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang, presented in the context of Qatar China 2016 Year of Culture. After his solo exhibition at Mathaf in 2011, Cai Guo-Qiang returned to Qatar to present an exhibition featuring 15 contemporary Chinese artists.

Focus is a series of solo exhibitions, featuring artists from the museum’s Permanent Collection, inviting audiences to rethink their understanding of art history and its connection to the world through original research, writing, and curating.
