The Green initiative of Movenpick Towers & Suites has helped it saving a considerable amount of water and energy during the last one year, revealed its General Manager Philippe Bonnot. Talking to reporters here yesterday, Bonnot and Dr Saif Al Hajri, Chairman, Friends of the Environment Centre, said the Green initiative could save 20 percent of water and 17 percent of energy in 2009, compared to the previous year. Bonnot said the hotel’s green initiative included using energy saving lighting system, effective water consumption and introducing energy saving devices in the rooms. “The Green initiative was implemented with a two-pronged strategy-by educating workers and visitors and using advanced devices”, Bonnot said. The energy-saving bulbs used by the Movenpick have the life for more than seven years. It has been proved that the energy saving lights can reduce the indoor temperature by 2 degrees Celsius, he said. “We are using advanced water filters and lights that would give excellent lighting and long lasting life,” Bonnot said. Dr Saif Al Hajri said the Environment Centre would encourage hotels and other organisations to adopt similar green initiatives. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=June2009&file=Local_News200906297825.xml
