Winners of contests on road safety being organised by the Traffic and Patrols Department will get five points that can be used to cancel an equal number of points accrued for traffic violations. The contests are being held by the National Committee for Prevention of Road Accidents, in collaboration with the Dawah Department at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs. Entries have been invited from nationals and expatriates in short story writing, Arabic poem writing (classical and traditional), graphics, caricature and web designing. All the entries should be on themes related to traffic accidents and road safety. The five points are an added attraction of the contests. The winners can benefit from these or they can transfer them to a second person, it was disclosed at a press conference yesterday. “The basic objective of the contests is to raise awareness about road safety,” said Ali bin Rashid Al Mohannadi of the Dawah Department and Col Mohammed Abdul Aziz Al Musallam, from the Traffic Department, at a joint press conference yesterday. Jamal Faiz, Director of Culture at the Ministry of Culture, Art and Heritage was also present. All the entries should be fresh and those used in previous competitions will not be considered, said Faiz. One contestant can participate only in one category. Ownership rights of the entries will rest with the organisers. The first prize winning entries will get QR5,000 in cash. Second and third prizes carry cash rewards of QR3,000 and QR2,000 respectively. Handwritten copies will not be accepted for short story and poetry writing. A copy each of the passport and ID card of the contestant must be enclosed with the entry. Entries may be submitted to the main offices of the Traffic and Patrols Department in Medinat Khalifa or mailed to: PO Box 3088, Ministry of Interior, Traffic and Patrol Department, Doha-Qatar. They can also be emailed to ncqatar.hotmail.com. The deadline is August 31. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=July2009&file=Local_News2009071423750.xml
