Double-decker buses to reach Doha ‘soon’ THE double-decker buses, specially manufactured in China for Mowasalat, are “on the way”, said Ahmed al-Ansari Senior Business Development Manager of Qatar’s government run transport firm. Giving this information to Gulf Times yesterday, al-Ansari said the ship carrying the buses had left one of the Chinese ports recently and is expected to reach Qatar shortly. The official said there should be at least five or six buses in the first batch. “Some of these would be used during the winter season for tourist purposes,” he said. In all probability they would be open-deck buses, said al-Ansari. The other buses would be used for expanding the public transport network, he said. To a question the official said the height of some of the flyovers and bridges in Qatar had been taken into account before introducing the buses. Most of over bridges in Qatar are built at a height of 5.7 metres or above and the double-decker buses would have absolutely no problem in moving beneath such bridges and flyovers. “The company buses would avoid taking routes where there could be a problem,” he said. The Karwa brand of buses, specially made by Kinglong company in China, has been on the Qatar road since 2006. The buses are extensively used for the transportation of school children and also for occasions like conferences and major meetings these days. The rear-engine buses are built in Xianen City in Fujian province of China.
