A major international conference on culture and economics will bring together some of the world’s top names in the arts, architecture and urban planning in Doha on 14-16 March 2015.

The ‘Art for Tomorrow’ conference, organized by the International New York Times in partnership with Qatar Museums and the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, will study the role of art and architecture in building communities, developing commerce and enriching lives.

Qatar Tourism Authority as Destination Sponsor of the event, will afford Qatar the opportunity to showcase its attractions and potential to a galaxy of influential experts from the global creative community.

“Our vision is to lead the sustainable development of Qatar into a world-class destination with deep cultural roots, “said His Excellency Issa bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi, QTA Chairman, “Understanding the vital role art can play in spreading cultural values and attracting visitor to Qatar, QTA is proud to be associated with this prestigious conference”, he added.

“This conference gives the opportunity to discuss maintaining the highest standards of aesthetic harmony and environmental sustainability. ‘Art for Tomorrow’ will address many of the most important challenges and opportunities we face in this regard, so it is entirely fitting that such an important event should be held in Doha,” , Al Mohannadi, added.

H.E. Al Mohannadi will be a keynote speaker in a panel session titled ‘Art and Economics: Global Cities, Global Stories, Global Tourism’, due to take place on Sunday, 15 March. Other speakers will include HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, Chair of Qatar Museums, Arthur O Sulzberger Jr., Chairman of the New York Times, Jack Lang, former French Minister of Culture, Geoffrey Lipman, former President of the World Travel and Tourism Council, among many others.

Leading artists sharing their insights will include Jeff Koons and Qatar’s own Yousef Ahmed. Architects and urban development specialists will also be well represented, including Jean Nouvel, designer of the new Qatar National Museum, and Rem Koolhaas.

QTA will be sponsoring a dhow trip for all 250 delegates across Doha Bay from the Sheraton to Museum of Islamic Art, venue for the conference’s gala dinner. Besides giving conference participants spectacular views of the city skyline, the trip is designed to give them a first-hand traditional experience of Qatar’s seafaring heritage.
