Doha ranked fourth in the world and second in the Middle East in terms of the number of new skyscrapers built in 2011, according to recent data. Figures from the Chicago-based Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat show that Doha accounted for eight of the 88 tall buildings with a height of more than 200 metres which were built in 2011, reports the Peninsula. Panama ranked first with ten buildings while Busan in South Korea and Abu Dhabi each boasted nine. Dubai came fifth with nine. The buildings which earned Doha its place in the rankings were Palm Tower-1, Palm Tower-2, both of which were 245m high, Burj Qatar, Courtyard, Renaissance Hotel, Merweb Hotel, Rotana Hotel and Shangri-La Hotel. Despite already having an impressive skyline, there are more tall buildings planned for Doha in the coming year, including the Doha Convention Center and Tower which at 551m will be the second tallest building in the world. 7Days
