The launch was attended by Mohammed Al Sayed, Director, Doha Municipality, Mohammed Hassan Al Mohannadi, General Manager, P R Launchers, and Abdullah Fakhro, Director of the project.

The Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning is seeking to provide the public with free service to ease their communications with the ministry from everywhere, said Al Sayed.

The new service uses solar energy matching in line with the ministry’s policy to protect the environment and encourage the use of clean energy.

Al Sayed said the first phase included installation of 30 devices and many of them have been fixed in the Corniche area and the remaining will be fixed soon in other areas.

He said the project includes installation of 200 solar devices for free mobile charging and will be fixed in public areas in all municipalities, including parks, entertainment areas, areas for social activities and some markets, according to a ministry release.

Fakhro said the devices use clean energy and will charge all types of smartphones, tablets and digital cameras.

He said the service has an advantage in that it saves time as the devices charge 30-40 percent faster than the ordinary electricity charging system.

It also has an electronic system which identifies the suitable voltage for the handset to be charged, according to the statement.
