Work on the Doha Metro project is on track and about 16 per cent of it has been completed, according to Abdulla Abdulaziz Al Subaie, Managing Director (MD) and Chairman of Qatar Rail.
Underground infrastructure for Lusail Light Rail Transit has also been completed, with eight tunnels stretching over eight kilometres, Al Subaie said, talking to the media at Darb Al Saai yesterday, Al Sharq reported.
Basic designs for passenger and freight trains as part of the rail project have also been finalised. The rail project is expected to be complete by 2018.
Tenders for construction work for the project will be issued by the second quarter of next year, said Al Subaie.
