The Doha Community Orchestra and the Wind Band announced it will hold auditions on September 10 for the following instruments, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone and tuba. The Wind Band will hold auditions for the following instruments, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, horn, trumpet, euphonium, trombone, tuba and percussion. Pat Smith, the Doha Community Orchestra coordinator, said all current and prospective members will have to audition in order to determine placement in the orchestra. Players should have at least “intermediate” competence on their instrument, and should also be prepared to commit to regular attendance at rehearsals. For the audition, candidates should bring a prepared piece of their own choice (one to two minutes long). There will also be a sight-reading test. The Doha Community Orchestra is a non-profit community organisation made up of musician residents in Qatar or enrolled at education institutions in Qatar. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=August2009&file=Local_News2009082524435.xml
