Doha Centre for Media Freedom to host discussion on Qatar Press Law

The Doha Centre for Media Freedom will organize a roundtable to discuss the Press Law in Qatar, November 11, 2009. The roundtable will discuss the need for the Qatari press and the views concerning the modifications and proposed new changes to the existing Press Law, in order to match the requirements of the changing society and the tremendous transformations that the world is witnessing against the backdrop of the information technologies. Ministers, public personalities, Chief Editors of various dailies in Qatar and the journalists would attend the event. The discussions would be moderated by Maryam Al Khater, deputy Director General of the Doha Centre for Media Freedom. Writers and publishers will also be present at the roundtable. Public representing different media will have the possibility to express their opinions and remarks. The Doha Media Freedom Chief will put forward suggestions about the requirements of the next stage in the law and will review the proposals of the Centre. Media officials and judicial advisors will contribute their valuable remarks about the new and proposed Press Law in Qatar. Al Khater will make an introductory presentation of the recent analytical study prepared by the Centre on the Press Law, comprising recommendations, suggestions, analysis and remarks about it and inspired by the media coverage in its various aspects as well as the recordings, opinions and editorials during the last ten years in the Qatari media.
