Audiences came from across Qatar to watch their favourite Disney characters perform under one roof at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC). Opening for the first time in Qatar, Disney On Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic, has proven to be an enchanting and stunning family entertainment production in Doha. Families arrived with their excited children dressed in their favourite Disney costumes, eager to see the world famous Disney characters perform live on ice. As the curtain was raised, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse skated onto the ice to the welcoming cheer of a full auditorium. The Disney superstars welcomed Qatar residents to the opening night of 100 Years of Magic, on Thursday, June 13. This enthralling Disney On Ice show transported spectators on a journey through some of the classic and contemporary Disney stories, all unveiled live on the purpose-built ice. This iconic production, which has been seen by millions worldwide, took the audience through time from the African Pride lands of Disney’s The Lion King, to Ariel’s undersea kingdom, Atlantica, and Cinderella’s spectacular fairy-tale castle. There was something for everyone. Mums and dads recalled their childhood memories of Beauty and the Beast as well as Snow White while youngsters cheered as Woody and Buzz from Disney/Pixar Toy Story and Nemo and Dory from Disney/Pixar Finding Nemo, made their appearance. The excitement continued when the arena was transformed into a faraway desert, where Aladdin and Abu from Disney’s Aladdin appeared on the ice. In an explosion of colour, 20 Genie’s burst onto the stage, skating effortlessly during their surprise appearance. “I have never seen anything like this. It was amazing to attend an event with the reputation that Disney On Ice has,” said ticket holder Fatma El Houshi. Produced by Feld Entertainment and brought to the Middle East by Dubai-based Sport & Entertainment Solutions (SES), the show reflects the talent of world-class figure skaters along with over 60 world famous Disney Characters. Mr Ali Haidary, Founder and CEO of SES said, “We are thrilled with how Qatar has opened their arms to Disney On Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic. Without a doubt the loyal Disney fans in the MENA region have been an integral part in transforming this show into the success that it is today.” Emmy Award®-winning choreographer Sarah Kawahara’s efforts were reflected in the stunning acrobatics and other innovative choreography that is dramatic and graceful, keeping everyone enthralled throughout the show. Sport & Entertainment Solutions announced at an official press conference in late April that Disney On Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic would be coming to the Middle East for the first time 13-16 June, in association with the Qatar Tourism Authority. - ILQ News -
