More than 70 hotels, high-end restaurants and cafes from across the city will be vying to present their signature dishes to the public at the third annual Doha Taste and Fun Festival next week. The Qatar Tourism Authority event, to be held from February 8 to 11 in a tent behind the Doha Exhibition Center in West Bay, is also to feature a host of family entertainment activities. “Arabic, Asian, Mexican, European and even fine dining gourmet treats will be on offer,” QTA’s internal exhibitions organising and licensing section head Lahdan Ghanim al-Mohannadi said yesterday. The participating outlets will offer dishes for QR5, QR10 and QR15 per plate. Coupons are available, each for QR5. Entry is free. “There will be competition involving four and five star hotels and visitors can vote for the best food,” QTA’s director of tourism Abdulla AlBader explained. Entertainment featuring a DJ and an array of performers, raffle prizes and children’s play area with games from Jungle Zone are among the other attractions. In a first for the festival, a nation’s food will be showcased with a special ‘Japanese Corner,’ marking the 40th anniversary of relations between Qatar and Japan. The chef from the Japanese embassy as well as a renowned chef from Tokyo will be preparing food at the festival. In a statement QTA chairman Ahmed al-Nuaimi observed that the ‘Taste and Fun’ festival has become a much anticipated community event in Doha. “Where else can families sample such gourmet food for a reasonable price in a family-friendly atmosphere?” he asked. The official lauded the support of the hospitality industry in Doha in organising the event. “I urge people to come along, try something new, eat well and enjoy themselves,” al-Nuaimi added. Jungle Zone, Askar Industrial Company and Worldwide Tents and Halls are the sponsors. The festival will start on February 8 at 2pm. An official opening ceremony is to be held between 5pm and 7pm. On February 9, the event will be open from noon to 10.30pm, on February 10 from 1pm to 10.30pm and on February 11 from noon to 10.30pm. Gulf Times
