Deputy PM holds talks with Japanese Prime Minister

TOKYO: Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso received here yesterday HE Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah, Deputy Premier and Minister of Energy and Industry, currently visiting Japan. HE al-Attiyah conveyed to Japanese Premier Aso the greetings of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani and their best wishes for further progress and growth to relations between the two countries. Talks during the meeting dealt with joint projects being implemented between Qatar and Japan especially in the oil and gas fields. The meeting was attended on the Qatari side by Riyad Ali al-Ansari, ambassador to Japan, and members of the delegation accompanying the Deputy Premier. On the Japanese side a number of senior officials at the council of ministers, the foreign ministry and the ministry of economy, trade and industry attended the meeting. Also yesterday, HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Industry met the Japanese Minister of Finance Shoichi Nakagawa and the country’s Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Yasutoshi Nishimura. Talks during the meeting covered bilateral ties and ways of boosting them, besides the joint projects in the gas sector. Meanwhile, Board Chairman of the Japanese LNG Company Shizuka Tamura yesterday hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of HE the Deputy Prime Minister and his accompanying delegation. After the function Tamura presented the Deputy Prime Minister with a souvenir. On Monday night Riyad Ali al-Ansari, Qatar’s ambassador to Japan, hosted a dinner banquet at the Tokyo City Club in honour of HE Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah and his accompanying delegation in the presence of Tsukasa Akimotu, member of the Japanese Council of Advisers. Prior to the banquet, Tsukasa presented HE Abdullah al-Attiyah with a souvenir. – QNA
