Deputy Emir appoints Judges

The Deputy Emir and Heir Apparent H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani issued yesterday Decree No. 29 of 2009 appointing judges. The decree stipulates the appointment of the following judges. 1. Ja’afar Saleh Mohammad Ahmad as Vice President of the Court of Appeal. 2. Ja’afar Araka Abu Tahir Abdullah as President at the Court of First Instance. 3. Mubarak Sheikh Taweel Mohammad Fakeer as Judge at the Court of First Instance. 4. Adel Ahmad Mohammad Al Hajj as Judge at the Court of First Instance. The decree will be be published in the official gazette. The Deputy Emir issued Decree No. 28 of 2009 approving Qatar’s accession the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), adopted in 1979. The Decree shall have the force of law in accordance with article No. 68 of the constitution, taking into account the reservations on the articles (2/A), (9/2), (4/15), (1/16/A,C), (1/16/F), and the announcements on the articles (1), (5/A), (1/29) as set out in the instrument of accession. The Decree is to be implemented from the date of issue and is to be published in the official gazette. The Deputy Emir also issued Emiri decisions organising the Cabinet, the organisational structure of the Cabinet General Secretariat, and the organisational structures of the ministries. An instrument of ratification approving a draft agreement on air transport between Qatar and Bulgaria, signed in Sofia on of April 14, 2009 was also ratified.
