The deadline for changing the old number plates of vehicles with the new ones has been extended to the end of this month, a local Arabic daily reported yesterday. With an earlier deadline ending on April 1, many people had called on the Traffic Department to allow more time for vehicle owners to change their old number plates. The Department had warned that those who fail to comply with the deadline could face fines. Majority of the vehicles already have the new number plates but there are many still using number plates in the old format. The new format contains only the internationally used numerals, that are originally Arabic and are easily visible from a distance. The Traffic Department’s garages in Madinat Khalifa and Duhail have been receiving an average 150 to 200 vehicles a day but their number has increased over the past one week, said the daily. CMC seeks panel to monitor tents’ safety DOHA: An ordinary meeting of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) yesterday called on the authorities to set up a special committee to monitor tents being set up on residential premises to ensure that they meet safety requirements. Several incidents of fire occurring in such tents have prompted the civic body to come out with the new proposal. The committee should comprise representatives from Civil Defence, Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning, Ministry of Environment and Kahramaa, CMC members said. It should also review procedures for issuing licences to such tents, they said. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/qatar/231634-deadline-extended-for-changing-old-number-plates-.html
