Some 100 people visit on daily basis to the health tent set up by the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) at Darb El-Saii offering free medical check-ups.

The tent opened on Tuesday to celebrate Qatar’s National Day that falls on December 18.

The tent is working on two shifts from 8am to 12noon and from 4pm to 10pm. It will conclude on December 20.

“We offer medical check-ups like blood pressure and blood sugar and calculate body mass index (BMI)”. BMI is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to adult men and women, said Yahya Salim Juma, a Staff Nurse at SCH.

“We received some 100 people per day in first two days. Some 43 people in the morning and 56 in the evening on Tuesday and 34 people in the morning and 65 people in the evening on Wednesday,” said Juma. More people are coming in the evening compare to those visiting in the morning so we have mobilised the staff accordingly. Only four staffs are working in the morning, however, in the evening there are nine staffs. “We are expecting more people at weekend so the staffs will be increased if needed. The tests did not take more than three minutes so there is no rush at the tent,” said Juma. Visitors are not required any specific document to avail the service. We ask only their full names, health cards or ID cards and their mobile number for our records and to send the result of blood tests. People underwent medical tests are being provided results if there is any problem.

“We are also referring the cases to Hamad Medical City if the condition is required to do so. So far only one case is being considered for referral after conducting the tests. We asked a visitor who came today to revisit tomorrow. He is suffering from chronic blood pressure. If his case is not improving we will refer him to the hospital tomorrow,” Said Juma.
