Darb Al Saai gears up for National Day

Darb Al Saai, the traditional hub of National Day celebrations, is getting the final touches.

The site in Al Sadd is expected to attract more visitors this year, with a wide range of activities from December 8, ten days ahead of National Day.

The National Day celebrations organising committee has set up tents and heritage stalls at the venue, with new interior and exterior designs, Qatar News Agency reported yesterday.

A spacious parking area has been allocated with exit and entry points to ease traffic.

The theme of Darb Al Saai was taken from a Qatari poem that evokes memories of the past and highlights the country’s culture and traditions.

Inspired by the success and popularity of the site, several new institutions and organisations will take part this time, including Qatar Foundation and the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.

Activities continue until December 20, with addition of two days this year.

Hassan Rashid Al Ajmi, Director of Activities, Darb Al Saai, said the Ministry of Transport will showcase its Karwa taxis and buses and the rail project. Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar Airways and several private airlines companies will also have stalls. A special tent will bring together ministries and government departments under one roof.

In a first, the Traffic Department and media outlets will also set up stalls.The site will have 14 eateries, children’s play areas and separateprayer areas for men and women.

There will be special programmesto raise environmental awareness among children andteach them about recycling of paper and plastic.An awareness campaign onagriculture on the radio, and drawing and painting competitionsfor children on preservation of the environment and other topicswill be held along with other activities and competitions forschool students, with prizes and gifts on offer.
