Dar Al Sharq drive to help debt ridden Dar Al Sharq has launched a fund-raising initiative during the holy month of Ramadan to help release prisoners who were convicted of defaulting on repayment of loans. The humanitarian initiative, called Tafreej Kurbah, which means alleviating miseries, is being carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and Eid Charity. General Manager and Editor-in-Chief of Dar Al Sharq, Abudulatif Al Mahmoud, said: “The campaign aims to help loan defaulters in settling loans and celebrate the upcoming Eid with their families.” The funds collected will be handed over to the MoI, which will finalize the legal procedures for releasing the beneficiaries. The campaign is targeting to raise QR1.7m in Ramadan and MoI will nominate the beneficiaries. Donations can be deposited in the bank account opened in Qatar Islamic Bank or handed over to the Accounts Department of Dar Al Sharq. A daily report on the funds collected will be published in Al Sharq newsppaper. The initiative is carried out in line with the humanitarian move which was launched jointly by Eid Charity and the Central Prison at the MoI, to help release prisoners convicted for unintentional manslaughter.
