Inspectors of the General Authority of Customs managed to seize massive quantity of 'tambaku' (a kind of chewing tobacco, which is banned in Qatar) at the Hamad Port.

On a post on their social media handle, customs said that 2.8 tonnes (2,873 kg) of 'tambaku' was found hidden inside water heaters. This had come light during the checking of a shipment arrived at the Hamad Port.

As the shipment was screened through the scanning device, it was suspected to have material hidden inside imported water heaters. When the container was transferred to the inspection area for further checks, the chewing tobacco was found located carefully hidden inside the heaters, the General Authority of Customs said in a statement.

After the trafficking attempt was foiled, Sea Customs Department director, Abdulhadi Al Sahli, thanked the inspectors for their hard work that led to seizing of the shipment, stressing that this is the result of the competence of customs officials and their field experience. Al Sahli said that legal measures were taken immediately after the shipment was seized.

Earlier this month customs had confiscated 12 tonnes of 'tambaku' at Hamad Port. (Source)
