Car clubs are a group of individuals, normally car owners who share the same passion and interest on things related to motor vehicles, trucks, racing, and anything fuel operated. Those who are part of these groups find them useful and thrilling.

Here, in Qatar, we found several car clubs offering memberships to those who want to join them but one particular group got our attention. They customise used cars, turn them into new ones, put them in a car show and donate the proceeds to different charity groups. They call themselves P.E.A.C.E!

The Pinoy Expats Auto Club for Enthusiasts (P.E.A.C.E)

P.E.A.C.E is a non-profit organisation of car-conscious individuals with a common interest - automobiles and raising funds for different charities! P.E.A.C.E was originally formed in Dubai in 2006 by five Filipino expatriates who wanted to start a community of people they can rely on with their automobile concerns. After several years, the club expanded, and in 2010, the P.E.A.C.E Qatar chapter was born. It served as an extension of the Filipino community from Dubai to Qatar. It was then recognised by the Philippine Embassy in the same year, and as they say, the rest is history!

    What's so special about P.E.A.C.E?

P.E.A.C.E is not your ordinary car club, because its focus isn't just on cars and their customisation. It exists for a cause. Aside from enjoying their beautiful cars individually when they meet, they also customise old model-vehicles and turn them into updated versions of themselves.

What they do next is the most exciting part of their work!

After every car is upgraded and customised to make it unique, P.E.A.C.E organises a spectacular car show for its members and also invite other car clubs to join in the fun and support the cause. These invitees pay a participation fee to join the event and money gathered goes towards funding a worthy cause. The car shows are often held in open parking spaces to accommodate more people. These places include the Mall of Qatar and Aspire Zone parking lots.

All the customised cars in the show are then given the chance to bring out their individual prowess in the event. Judges decide who wins. The participants are judged based on various categories such as best paint, body, wheels and more. The proceeds of the event will then be given to the chosen charities of the club.

The following are their regular beneficiaries:

    • Distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and the Northern Emirates.
    • Bantay Bata (Charity for children in need)
    • Bantay Kalikasan (Environmental group)
    • Gawad Kalinga (Charity for the less fortunate)
    • GMA 7 Kapuso Foundation (Charity for the less fortunate)

By having regular car shows, the mission of P.E.A.C.E to bring people with the same interests together is achieved. They not only enjoy the company of each other as a club but also help the community around them. In fact, a good way to describe P.E.A.C.E is 50% charity work, 25% auto club, 15% sports-related and 10% interaction group.

    How does P.E.A.C.E help charities?

Distressed OFWs from various Philippine embassies is the number one priority of P.E.A.C.E, and it helps these workers who are often abused by their employers and want to go back to the Philippines but have no money for airplane tickets. P.E.A.C.E helps them by buying them tickets from the funds they have so they can go home.

But, aside from helping these charities and organisations, P.E.A.C.E. helps members who need medical assistance and financial help after they are meticulously checked and verified to ensure that they really need help.

How P.E.A.C.E members customise their rides for a good cause

Customising the car is the most interesting part of joining the club, especially since it's for a good cause. With this goal in mind, customising becomes more exciting and interesting for members who help each other learn more about cars, restore them, provide assistance to one another, participate in activities, and promote the hobby. They also show off their creative and imaginative side while making their car stand out from the rest.

    • Accessories can be added like spoilers, side, and front skirts, to bumpers, headlights, fenders, stickers, etc.
    • The sound system can also be upgraded.
    • Car engines are cleaned, painted and restored to look their best.
    • The interiors of the car are also updated from the seat covers, stirring wheel, seatbelts, to brake and clutch pads, etc.
    • The wheels of the car can be replaced, painted and updated to what fits the theme of the owner.

To understand more, this is how they do it. Since they have all the technical knowledge of cars, they use it to create new paints and designs, upgrades and elevate accessories of old cars to make them look brand new.
