A lower court has ordered a motorist and his insurers to pay a huge QR806,000 ($2,21,337) in damages to a Nepali expatriate who was left almost incapacitated after a freaky accident. The accident was caused due to the carelessness of the motorist, the court concluded in its ruling. The motorist while driving on a main thoroughfare suddenly changed lane from the middle one to the left and hit a vehicle in the rear. The impact was so strong that the vehicle that was hit ran over the divider in the middle of the road (between the Customs roundabout and Ras Abu Aboud flyover). It so happened that a man was on the divider at the time apparently trying to cross the road. The car hit him with force and he was thrown to the other side of the road. To his bad luck, a car speeding from the other direction knocked him down, leaving him severely injured. He, a Nepali expatriate, suffered fractures all over. Medical report suggested he was incapacitated.
