The Corniche road work is going on in full swing and Ashghal is doing its best to complete the entire project by November as originally planned, an official said yesterday. As the summer vacation is coming to an end and the schools are set to start the new academic session early September, many residents fear there could be a big traffic jams as the Corniche road is partially closed for renovation. At present the road is operational only on two lanes each side as work is going on to convert many of the roundabouts into signals. Three companies entrusted with the job are working round the clock. “While the roundabouts are being converted into traffic signals, the asphalt layers on the road are replaced with better quality ones,” the official said. “Moreover, the road will be equipped with smart transportation systems such as better cameras and other solutions to ensure safety for drivers and pedestrians,” he explained. Drainage and water pipes will also be replaced. The official admitted that as there were only two lanes operational now, the public might face some difficulties. “The work was undertaken in mid July considering the fact that a large number of residents had travelled out of the country. Though there would be some difficulties for traffic for now, we are confident of completing the work on time,” he said. Clear directions are displayed at different places of the Corniche which would help the public to reach their destination without any confusion, the official added. http://www.gulf-times.com/qatar/178/details/364010/corniche-road-improvement--work-to-be-over-%E2%80%98by-november%E2%80%99
