Consultative meeting of Arab foreign ministers concludes MoFA

The consultative meeting of Arab foreign ministers, chaired by His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, concluded here today. It is the first meeting following the agreement reached by the ministers last February on the importance of intensifying their consultative meetings.

Following the consultative meeting of the Arab foreign ministers, a statement was issued indicating that the meeting looked into the developments of the Palestinian file and listened to a statement from the Palestinian Foreign Minister in this regard, and there were many interventions from most of the heads of delegations regarding these developments, especially in light of what happened in the formation of a new Israeli government. Unfortunately, it was observed that she began her work with extremely negative statements about peace, the Palestinians, and the chances of a settlement.

The statement affirmed its complete condemnation and denunciation of these statements, as well as the Israeli insistence on conducting a march in occupied East Jerusalem, considering that they constitute a provocation to the Palestinians and may return the whole situation to the situation of a burning crisis.

The statement indicated that the meeting also touched on the developments of the negotiations on the Iranian nuclear file, the Iranian behavior in the region, the Arab deal with the crisis in Syria and how to maximize the Arab role in this regard, as there was an exchange of opinion and important views on all these issues.

The statement stated that there were statements at the beginning of the meeting from the Foreign Minister of Yemen, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Libya, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lebanon and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sudan about the situation in their countries.

In another statement issued by the League Council at the ministerial level in its extraordinary session, the Council congratulated the United Arab Emirates on the occasion of its non-permanent membership in the Security Council for the period 2022/2023.

The Council also thanked the Republic of Tunisia for its efforts in defending Arab issues and working to strengthen cooperation between the League of Arab States and the United Nations during its 2020/2021 membership of the Security Council.
