Twenty-five years after its introduction, the Saratoga line from Concord was relaunched yesterday in Doha in a distinctive new incarnation, which the Swiss watchmaker said “embodies the perfect blend of traditional elegance, prestigious associations and contemporary design.” Top Spanish golfer Alvaro Quiros, a brand ambassador for Concord, who was present at the launch, gave his wholehearted approval to the new range of watches, calling them “trendy and “sporty”. “Concord is a brand which I like a lot, it’s sporty, like me, and trendy,” Quiros the 2009 Commercialbank Qatar Masters champion, said during the launch at Four Seasons Hotel. Since its launch in 1986, the Concord Saratoga has consistently reflected the spirit of its namesake, a distinguished thoroughbred race track located in Saratoga Springs, New York. Opened in 1863, Saratoga is the oldest organised sporting venue of any kind in the United States. Historically, Concord has been associated with numerous high-profile horse racing events in the Middle East, and has built an intimate circle around the famous international jockeys and the royal families in the region. Interpreted through no less than forty different models over the past quarter of a century, the Concord Saratoga has earned its status as a top-class, internationally recognised luxury sports watch endowed with a distinctive, classic design and high-quality workmanship. As such, it has maintained a particularly strong following in the Middle East where horse racing is a passion and the breeding of Arabian horses is a pride passed on from generation to generation. A new line of Concord’s C2 watches was also launched yesterday, which the company’s general manager Flavio Pellegrini said was “daring, cool and trendy”. “It took us eight months of research to develop the new C2 line. It’s a sporty chronograph that that has strength and character and is also daring in its size and materials,” said Pellegrini. Its high-precision mechanical 27-jewel automatic movement beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour drives a wealth of useful indications, including the date and chronograph functions, all clearly displayed on the three-part tone-on-tone dial.
