Essenssmrithi, alumni of SN College Nattika - Doha chapter, is hosting a concert by acclaimed Mohan veena artiste Poly Varghese from Chennai (pictured) as part of its seventh anniversary celebrations. The event will be held on January 24 at 7.30pm at the Indian Cultural Centre. Varghese, also a versatile theatre personality, graduated from Kerala Kalamandalam and shifted to Shantiniketan Kolkata to get trained in Rabindra Sangeet. He later moved to Rajasthan and became one of the disciples of Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, who invented the Mohan veena. He is one of the few artistes who play Mohan veena in Hindustani musical instruments and have bagged several awards. A nifty player of more than 19 instruments, Varghese is a music director and an actor as well. Anil Nautyal, Indian embassy’s head of chancery and ICC’s chief co-ordinating officer, will inaugurate the function. Gulf Times
