The Public Works Authority finished work on 21 schools and kindergartens with the beginning of the academic year 2014 / 2015. 13 schools and eight kindergartens were completed in Doha and surrounding areas with a total cost of more than QR 800 million.
H.E. Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning Sheikh Abdulrahman Bin Khalifa Al Thani and H.E. Dr. Mohammed Abdul Wahed Al-Hammadi, the Minister of Education and Higher Education visited one of the completed schools. Receiving them was H.E. Eng. Nasser bin Ali Al Mawlawi the President of the Public Works Authority, with a number of senior officials from the Buildings Affairs in Ashghal, the Supreme Education Council and the school management.
The following schools and kindergartens are completed: Zubaida Secondary School for girls in Nuaija, Al Bayan Secondary School for girls and the Finnish school in South Jamiaa, Amna Bint Wahab Secondary School for girls, the second Al Bayan Primary School for girls in Madinat Khalifa South, Ahmed Bin Hanbal Secondary School for boys in Old Airport, Al Quds Model School in Al Hilal, Al Khansaa Primary School for girls in Al Thumama, Khawla Bint Al Azwar Primary School in Madinat Khalifa South, Gharnata Preparatory School for girls in Onaiza, Hetteen Model School in Al Aziziya, Voltaire School in Al Waab, and Khalifa Model School. In addition to kindergartens in Old Airport, Rawdat Egdaim, Jaryan Jneihat, Al Mearad, Mebaireek, and three kindergartens in Abal Heeran.
Schools were built according to the approved designs for schools in Qatar, where five schools were built according to the standard type that is implemented on large plots of lands, and eight schools were built according to the limited area type.
As for the kindergartens, they were designed and built according to the approved and unified design for kindergartens in all areas in Qatar.
It is worth mentioning that the standard type of schools have 25 classrooms to accommodate about 650 students, as well as various modern facilities including science, languages and IT laboratories, libraries, and internal and external sports and art halls in addition to shaded parking spaces and services buildings.
While the limited area type of schools has 18 classrooms to accommodate about 450 students and also includes various modern facilities including science, languages and IT laboratories, libraries, and internal and external sports and art halls in addition to shaded parking spaces and services buildings.
As for the kindergartens design, it includes 12 classrooms to accommodate 240 children, as well as shaded playing and activity areas, music, languages and computer rooms, in addition to a library and shaded parking spaces, green areas and services buildings.
The design of schools and kindergartens is in line with the Qatari code for people with special needs, providing ramps at entrances and exits with special specifications for bathrooms and other areas. It also complies with engineering specifications and safety requirements adopted by Global Fire and Security Systems.
The design of the schools and kindergartens also took into account the sustainably elements and “green buildings” requirements which include installation of systems and equipment that save energy and water.
