Commercial complex for single workers set to open in October

The long-awaited commercial and entertainment complex specially meant to cater for single workers in the Industrial Area is set to open in the first week of October. The project, a first of its kind for single workers in the country, will have an hypermarket within the complex in its first phase. The facility, to be fully operational by mid-2014, will for workers from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Southeast Asian countries, including the Philippines. The industrial city ‘West End Park’ within an area of 671,000sqm houses sporting, recreational, entertainment and commercial facilities. The Grand Mall Hypermarket, the largest facility of the West End Park, will open in the first week of October. Situated in an area of 103,000sqm, the hypermarket will have all types of outlets, including a food court with well-known restaurants, jewellery shops, pharmacy, studio, saloon, optical, mobile shops and a polyclinic. “Between 60 and 70 percent of our customers will be single workers,” said Mohamed Jabir, Group Marketing Head of the UAE-based Regency Group, which manages the Grand Mall Hypermarket. The group has a presence in other GCC countries such as Kuwait and the UAE, serving customers in industrial areas. The West End Park is strategically located in the East zone of the Industrial Area and the mall is situated behind the Karwa driving school. The Grand Mall Hypermarket will have four access points with seven gates, parking space for 3,200 vehicles and a base for 180 buses. “We will have shuttle bus service from key locations in the Industrial Area to the mall,” said Jabir. An outlet mall within the commercial complex is set to open during the first half of 2014 and would bring popular bands. The West End Park will have a four-screen cinema complex run by Qatar Bahrain International Cinema Co (QBICC), each with 500-seat capacity. It will mostly show films from India, Nepal and the Philippines. It will also have one of the largest amphitheatres in Qatar with a capacity of 48,000 people. It will host a cultural event during this Eid Al Fitr. The West End Park has a sports club with a football ground, four cricket pitches (for practice), one international cricket stadium, four badminton and eight basketball courts, while a swimming pool is likely to be built later. A kids’ amusement park has also been built within the facility.
