Huge traffic snarls and chaos on the roads in the market area near Souq Waqif have become a permanent feature on Friday evenings in recent times, with traffic authorities paying little attention. People park their cars literally in the middle of the road, waiting for parking slots nearby to be vacant, hassled motorists say. Families say these cars flagrantly violate traffic rules and despite their repeated phone calls to traffic police for help, little is done to ease the problem. “We were stuck in traffic on the main road near Souq Waqif for more than an hour on our way to the souq area,” said a motorist who was with his wife and children and going to Souq Waqif last evening. He said lately it seemed all traffic in Doha was moving towards Souq Waqif. “Traffic police must pay attention since adequate parking space is not available in the area and people don’t prefer to park their cars in the ticketed parking slots and walk a little.” http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/qatar/250101-come-friday-it-is-chaos-near-souq-waqif.html
