College of the North Atlantic-Qatar (CNA-Q) raised QR150,000 for charity at a recent Art and Photography Auction to celebrate 10 years in Qatar. Over 100 selections of art and photography were sold at the event; the majority of the pieces were donated by members of CNA-Q’s Art club and Photography club, consisting of both students and employees. Many of the pieces were produced by a variety of international professional artists as part of two art symposia held at CNA-Q over the past two years. The live auction was hosted by Dr Ken MacLeod, President of CNA-Q, and Hussain Al Marri, President of the Student Representative Council at CNA-Q, and attended by Board Vice Chair of Qatar International Islamic Bank (QIIB), Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah bin Thani Al Thani, and CEO of QIIB, Abdulbasit Ahmad Al Shaibei. Both QIIB and Sheikh Ali contributed substantially to the funds raised and bought multiple pieces of art. “This auction far surpassed our expectations,” said Dr MacLeod. “Not only did we raise more money than we had hoped, but the large number of people in attendance, including Sheikh Ali and Al Shaibei, created a wonderful energetic event.” “Thank you to everyone who supported this initiative, in particular, our industry donors and our 10-year sponsor Qatar Petroleum,” he added. “We were able to meet and surpass our goal and we are thrilled to be able to give all proceeds to the Qatar Red Crescent.” An event will be held soon to present Qatar Red Crescent with the proceeds.
