Access and exit to and from Al Rayyan Road to Jasim Bin Hamad Street will be closed for a length of approximately 250m from Friday for the next three months.
The affected section is in the vicinity of the Al Rayyan Village compound, according to an Ashghal statement.
After the closure, vehicles from the Olympic roundabout (Sports roundabout) and heading west will be able to access Jasim Bin Hamad Street by taking the exit from Al Rayyan Road to Al Yamama Street, turning left to Al Rashid Street and right again onto Jasim Bin Hamad Street.
Commuters wishing to access Al Rayyan Road via Jasim Bin Hamad Street will have to make a U-turn to access Al Rashid Street and then make a right turn onto Al Yamama Street (see map below).
Ashghal is implementing the temporary closure to complete the northern section of a proposed tunnel that will eventually pass under Al Rayyan Road. The completed intersection will allow vehicles travelling eastbound along Al Rayyan Road to access Jasim Bin Hamad Street through the tunnel, without the need to make a U-turn at the Olympic roundabout.
The tunnel will also allow the vehicles heading south from Jasim Bin Hamad Street to go directly to the Olympic roundabout without the need to make a U-turn at the February 22nd Street/Al Rayyan junction.
Ashghal has urged all commuters to abide by the speed limit to help ensure their safety and follow the new signage displayed in the area to guide them.
