The Arabian Gulf Adventure Rally, the first motor vehicle gathering and rally in the Middle East, will kick off at The Pearl-Qatar, the actual departure point of the Tour, on February 27. Around 70 classic, gleaming, chrome-plated vehicles — dominated by a collection of regal Rolls-Royce — will tour several Arabian Gulf States during the three-week rally. The vehicles started arriving yesterday and will be available to the public on February 26. The rally will proceed to Abu Dhabi, UAE, via a short stretch through Saudi Arabia. It will cross the mountains via Al Ain, to the historic town of Nizwa, and then on to Muscat, the capital of Oman, before ending in Dubai. The collection of Rolls-Royce vehicles represents virtually every year, every make and every model of the legendary brand, including a 1912 Silver Ghost. Organised by Peter Cameron, the mastermind behind the successful 2001 Rolls-Royce tour in Malaysia, and 2005 Borneo rally, the purpose of the tour is to promote regional tourism, and to offer a unique experience that will appeal to classic car enthusiasts, and anyone who enjoys seeing up close the history and beauty of classic engineering on the road. The tour brings together Rolls-Royce owners worldwide, including the United Kingdom, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Monaco, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, Australia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Canada and Bermuda. The tour, which is organised by a committee of seasoned volunteers on a non-profit basis, is also supported by the official tourism authorities of the Gulf States, as well as Qatar Airways, Commercial Bank of Qatar, the Al Fardan Group Holding Company and Rolls-Royce dealers in the region. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=February2009&file=Local_News2009022522624.xml
