The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has made a major breakthrough in unravelling the mystery of a series of thefts of valuables from inside parked cars that took place in Al Murra suburb of Doha. The thief who used to break in the cars and steal cash and valuable items like mobile handsets has been arrested. The CID received complaints from people that a number of valuables such as mobile phones, wallets and ATM cards, among other things, were stolen from their cars while they were parked in front of their homes in Al Murra locality. The thefts took place in the night. A research team was set up by the CID immediately to unveil the mystery of these crimes and arrest the perpetrators by intensifying secret patrols in the area. During search and investigation, the Department received information from one of its sources about a person residing in the area who was suspected to have committed these crimes using his brother’s car. \ http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=April2010&file=Local_News201004133168.xml After verifying the information, a search warrant was sought from the Public Prosecution Office to conduct a search on that person, his home and the car he used for the crimes he was alleged to have committed. The CID seized QR35,000 in cash and a number of mobile phone handsets, some gloves and screwdrivers during the raid on his house. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to having broken into the cars and stolen valuables. He broke the windows of the cars to steal. The man guided the police to the spots where he committed the thefts and identified the stolen items later. The CID referred him to Public Prosecution for further investigation and completing legal formalities like filing formal charges against him. The CID has, meanwhile, urged people not to leave cash or expensive items in their cars. People have also been advised against carrying ATM Pin codes in their wallet.
