The Criminal Investigation Department "CID" in Qatar could to arrest five female beggars of Arab nationalities while they were engaged in begging in a business district in Doha. The arrest was held as a part of ongoing campaign to eradicate this phenomenon alien to the Qatari society. One of the patrols of the criminal investigation department that was rounding behind Gold Souq in Al Ganim area of Doha, became suspicious in two women for begging. When two beggars felt the police as observing them, tried to escape from the police where they were arrested in the presence of women police. The police from the CID also arrested another woman while begging and asking for financial assistance from the visitors to "Deira market" and another two beggars while they were selling religious books "Azkar" with the aim of begging and collecting financial assistances from the shoppers at one of the commercial complexes at Bin Imran area. During the investigation, the beggars admitted that they came to the country for selling unimportant goods and for seeking financial assistance. Later, the beggars were referred to the competent authorities for completing appropriate procedures in such cases. The Criminal Investigation Department appealed the public cooperation through reporting any begging cases in the country by informing "Begging Combating Section" in the CID on the phone Nos. 4714220 and 4823455.
