The country is likely to receive light rain from Tuesday, with the chances of showers increasing significantly over the coming weekend, the weather office has said.

In a report issued on Sunday, the Qatar Met department said numerical weather prediction charts continued to indicate that a “state of atmospheric instability” was expected to affect the country due to the “extension of an upper-level low pressure system” from Tuesday until the end of this month.

To begin with, the instability will have a weak impact on Tuesday and on Wednesday (November 23), and there is a chance of light rain over some areas during the daytime.

However, the influence of the unstable conditions is expected to increase from Thursday (November 24) until Saturday (November 26), accompanied by easterly to southeasterly fresh to strong winds, the Met department has said. Conditions are also likely to become more favourable for rain - of varying intensity - in most parts of the country. Heavy and thundery rain is expected at times during this period.

A warning has also been issued for offshore areas, with the wave height expected to range between 7ft and 10ft, reaching 13ft at times in some areas.

In view of the expected conditions, the Met department has urged people to be cautious and avoid sea activities during this period.

On Friday, Gulf Times had reported that the wait for seasonal showers might soon be over as preliminary forecasts by the Met department pointed to the possibility of rain in the coming period.

The authorities concerned have already charted out a joint action plan on how to deal with any situation arising out of rainfall in different parts of the country and rain-preparedness works have also been carried out at a number of places.

Meanwhile, the Met department has said strong winds and high seas are expected in offshore areas towards the north in the early hours of Monday.

The wind speed in these areas may go up to 22 knots at first before dropping to 5-15 knots by the evening, with the sea level rising to 7ft.

The detailed forecast for offshore areas also says hazy conditions are expected at times along with some clouds.

On the other hand, hazy conditions are expected in some inshore areas at first, followed by mild temperature during the day with some clouds. It will be relatively cold by night.

A minimum temperature of 15C is expected in Mesaieed and Wakrah on Monday, while in Doha it will be relatively higher at 21C. The maximum temperature will be 30C in Doha, Al Khor and other places.

Sunday, a minimum temperature of 16C was recorded in Mesaieed, followed by 17C in Turayna. In the capital, a minimum of 21C was recorded in the Hamad International Airport and Qatar University areas. The maximum, meanwhile, was 31C in the Doha airport area.

The Met department has advised people to follow latest updates and warnings through its website and official social media accounts. One can find more at http://www.qweather.gov.qa/NewsDetail.aspx#sthash.V9yss4SI.dpuf (Source)
