A senior official of the Supreme Council of Health has clarified that Centrum, a multivitamin drug sold in Qatar, is free from pig fat. The comments came in the context of reports in some Gulf-based newspapers that one of the ingredients of Centrum was pig gelatin. Dr Aisha Al Ansari, director of the Department of Pharmacy and Drugs Control, said Centrum tablets don’t contain pig fat. Gelatin contains various fats but animal fat is not one of the ingredients of the tablet, said Al Ansari. “Our department keeps a file on all the drugs sold in Qatar with details about the products, including the ingredients, based on approved laboratory tests. We have confirmed that Centrum tablets sold in Qatar are free from pig fat,” Ansari was quoted as saying by Al Sharq daily. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=June2009&file=Local_News2009060301512.xml
