An exhibition of a selection of products and artworks designed by celebrities from around the world is open to the public today ahead of its official inauguration by Sir Ben Kingsley tomorrow afternoon. The Oscar-winning actor will cut the ribbon to open The Whatever It Takes Experience event at 5pm tomorrow evening at the Grand Hyatt. Kingsley is a 21st Century Leader ambassador, and his original artwork is part of the collection. He will take a guided tour of the exhibition tomorrow, looking at some of the 50 other pieces of art and products. Celebrity artwork will be on show from George Clooney, Samuel L Jackson, Giorgio Armani, Donna Karan, Sir Bob Geldof, Snoop Dog and Heidi Klum among many others. “Whatever It Takes… is a cause-related product campaign which involves more than 600 celebrities or leaders in their field who have been officially invited to become a 21st Century Leader,” a spokesperson said. “As an ambassador they create an original piece of art with a strong message of hope,” she said, adding “this artwork is then designed into a variety of environmentally sustainable lifestyle products, created by producers who are working towards the Whatever It Takes ethical policy.” “The products are then sold to raise funds through 4,000 prestigious retail partners globally such as Harrods, Selfridges, Bloomingdales, Macy’s, Lane Crawford, David Jones and Harvey Nichols amongst others,” she added. Some of the products which will be on sale include t-shirts, computer accessories, stationery, watches, mugs and plates, wallets and iPod covers among other items of clothing and accessories. A silent auction will also feature unique items and collections from Stella McCartney, Heidi Klum, Gwen Stefani, Alexander McQueen and Sir Paul Smith. Slumdog Millionaire director and producer Danny Boyle and Christian Colson, who are to be recognised at the gala dinner tomorrow after becoming 21st Century Leader ambassadors earlier this year, said: “We were so excited to be able to contribute our artwork to Whatever It Takes, and are really excited to be part of the campaign and to join the 600 other stars that are already in the programme.” The Whatever It Takes Experience, which runs until October 31, gathers all the products together, making them available in one place for the first time. Organisers also announced that they have created a treasure hunt to win exclusive products from the Whatever It Takes range. Anyone who finds a voucher in the lobby of the Grnad Hyatt can redeem it for a free prize, and clues to the location of the vouchers can be found on The Whatever It Takes group on Facebook. http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=323099&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
